The truth of the Immaculate Conception of Mary is a dogma of faith. It was solemnly proclaimed on December 8, 1854 with the Bull Ineffabilis Deus by Pope Pius IX. It says that Mary, from the moment of her conception, was preserved not only from any sin she might have committed, but also from the original sin we all inherit.
